Join us for Board Leadership Training!

Stand out through specialized training and become an effective nonprofit board leader.

Board Leadership Training is the perfect educational course for the new or experienced non-profit board member.  The courses, which are conducted by community leaders, are a result of a partnership between United Way of Greater Topeka and Washburn University Leadership Institute.

Our initial training consists of 4 sessions that provide the comprehension and skills necessary to handle the responsibilities of a board member. Then, there is the option to advance to a second tier of training that will give an in-depth look at the various issues that face nonprofits. Training includes role playing experiences to really polish leadership skills in specific situations.

Tier one training will familiarize participants with:
  • Your roles and responsibilities
  • Deciphering legal issues
  • Performance criteria
  • Meeting facilitation
  • Understanding financial statements
  • So much more!

Students must attend all four sessions in order to complete the course.  If a student is unable to attend one or two class(es), he or she may be able to attend the required class(es) in a subsequent course to fulfill completion requirements.
