2010 Nathan Cave Award presented

Topeka, Kan – Ginger E. Smoot is the 2010 recipient of the Nathan Cave Award.

Smoot was announced the recipient during Labor’s United Way Campaign Kick Off event on Thursday, September 02.  Smoot was honored for her commitment to the community as illustrated through work with Heartland Shares.  She is an active member of Kiwanis and volunteers regularly with park clean-up activities, United Way’s labor participation committee, the Special Olympics and the Labor Day Parade.  She is a vocal advocate for the betterment of the greater Topeka community.

“This community is a better place because of Ginger’s work for others,” said Dan Woodward, Vice President AFL-CIO Community Services Liaison.  “She motivates those around her and truly exemplifies what it is to Live United.”

About Nathan Cave

The Nathan Cave Award was instituted in 1984 by the Topeka Federation of Labor and the Labor Participation Committee of the United Way of Greater Topeka.  The awards were named after the late Nathan Cave, a union member who passed at the age of 30.  He led a short, yet inspirational life of selfless giving.  Cave is long remembered by the local community for his concern for others less fortunate and his commitment to providing help and hope.
